Passing of Jane Maher

Jane Elaine Maher

(Née Trusler)

April 25, 1937–June 18, 2023

Died peacefully with loved ones at her side on Sunday June 18th,2023 at McKenzie Health, Richmond Hill.

Treasured daughter of the late George and Mona Trusler, and sister to George (Connie-deceased) and Doreen Trusler, Bill and Carol Trusler (both deceased) and Jim and Heather Trusler.

Devoted and beloved wife of Frank, (deceased 1992), cherished stepmom to Kitty (David) Larson and John (Tina), Bruce (Deb), and Sandy (Sherry) Maher. Proud and caring step grandmom to Christopher, Alex (Lauren), and Ali (Michael Hunter) Maher; Iris (Brian Yes) Maher, Jordon, and Monte Bromley; Tyler and Jonathon Larson: Jason, and Chelsea Maher. Step great grandmom to Jocelyn Maher, Briar and Booker Bromley and Marlow Hunter.

Dear sister-in-law to Rita (Percy)Good, Vickie Dunford (Kern Lee), and Pat (Charlie) Hunter.

Deeply loved aunt to nieces and nephews:

Geordie (Kary), Eugene (Laurie), David, and Andrew (Tamar) Trusler, Katie (David) Ward, Michael and Wendy Trusler, Ross (Ann Darlington), Brittany (Tom Kay) and Iain Trusler.

Step aunt to Roger, Maryjane, and Tina (Andy Durnford) Pemberton.

Cherished great aunt to Jay (Amy), Cricky and Robbie Trusler; Thomas and Graham Trusler; Joe and Gemma Trusler; Julia Trusler; Connor, Scottie, and Evan Ward; Owen Trusler; Fin Taylor, Quinn, Skye, Hope and Beau Trusler; and McKenzie Trusler. Step great aunt to Taylor and Paige Durnford. Great great aunt to Waverly and Winnifred Trusler.

Jane always had her finger on the pulse of her large extended family and was the glue that held us together. She will be deeply missed by us all, including Buster, her golden.

A graduate of Oakwood Collegiate and the University of Toronto, Jane taught grade one for 35 years at York Memorial Elementary School. In retirement, Jane became increasingly active in her community as a member of the Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, the Horticultural Society, and Club 35. Large or small, Jane was always up for Friday night dinners with the club. She also retained strong ties to former colleagues through the Retired Teachers Association—a group she lunched with monthly for almost as many years as she taught.

For Jane there was no better feeling than going up the shore to Go Home Bay to gather on the rocks with family and lifelong friends. Summers spent canoe tripping as a young woman, picnics, gardening, and blueberry picking always, along with winters spent snowmobiling across the ice, sustained her.

Generous, loyal, and compassionate with a quirky sense of humour, Jane will be remembered for her knowledge of wildflowers, love of the colour pink and the delight she poured into her Christmas gift giving.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital, and McKenzie Health. We extend our deepest gratitude to Christina Lovsin for her care and devotion to Jane. In the 15 years she worked for and with Jane, she became her honorary daughter and family to many of us.

Family will receive friends at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge St, Richmond Hill, on Wednesday June 28th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, 10066 Yonge St, Richmond Hill on Thursday, June 29th at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Georgian Bay Land Trust would be greatly appreciated.

2023 Cottage Tree

Hello Go Home Bay

This is a draft of the 2023 Cottage Tree.

Please refresh your memory of the punctuation rules, seen on the first full page, to keep the generations straight.

Then check for errors and omissions in the cottage residents, owners, ownership dates, map location, marital status and names of grandchildren. If you see question marks or incorrect information about another cottage, feel free to send it to Emily, or better yet, provide Emily with the contact information of the site holder.

Contact Emily through her email, emily_ghislain@yahoo.ca, or FB msg with updates by June 1st.

The new photos, taken by Helen Harrison, will be added before printing.

The goal is to have it ready to distribute in July.
